More control. Less waiting.

Omadesign 0.6.1 brings offline background removal and AI upscaling, live agents on the canvas, a fuller typography workflow, and faster brushing and motion. Your work stays editable in native documents.

Cut out and upscale, offline

Remove Background creates an editable mask on a Pixel layer while preserving the original pixels. Preview the cutout or matte, refine its edges, then apply it as one undo step. The bundled model runs locally; optional models download only when requested.

AI upscaling works in Photo, Pixel background removal and raster export. Choose 2×, 4× or a custom scale. Photo saves and opens a developed copy. Pixel can upscale before removing a background or upscale the finished cutout, keeping its mask and canvas placement aligned. File → Export shows the format, scale and exact output dimensions. Models, runtime licenses and searchable offline Credits ship with the app.

Work with an agent on the canvas

The native Agent panel connects to local ACP harnesses and discovers available providers, models and effort levels. Agents can make undoable edits to the live document. Conversations, preferences and favorites persist locally.

Paste screenshots, SVG, copied objects, files or long logs into the composer as removable references. Short text stays inline. References survive conversation History; interrupted connections and failed sends preserve unsent drafts and attachments. Delivery adapts to the connected provider's capabilities, including file/path fallback. Provider availability and media support depend on the installed harness.

Set type, then keep editing it

Advanced typography exports as outlines where needed to preserve placement. Font search also stays open while you click and type; choosing a font closes the picker.

Selection, appearance and placement

Pixel selections have direct transform handles and an editable Bézier lasso. Move, resize, distort, skew, change perspective or warp the selection; preview Grow, Shrink and Feather before applying. Adding a pixel layer now preserves the selection and keeps subsequent painting clipped to it.

Object content, shadows, glows and color overlays have independent blend modes and opacity. Fill opacity and interior grouping provide separate control over content and effects. Older documents retain their appearance through migration; export dialogs report format limitations.

Flip lives beside Rotate and has Shift+H / Shift+V shortcuts, including reflection of Motion artwork and its keys. Align objects, groups or selected layers to their artboard from the inspector; Shift-click aligns each selected unit to its own artboard. Fit now sits beside 100% and the zoom readout across all five studios.

Less repeated work

Brushing updates affected pixels, dragging reuses unchanged canvas work, and large Layers panels and tab lists avoid rebuilding offscreen rows. Motion reuses compatible effect work and avoids duplicate thumbnail renders during playback. Complex paths no longer recalculate their bounds for every control point. Hidden Wayland windows stop prolonged spinning when redraw callbacks are withheld. Opening many files from the command line queues the full set.

Across three tested machines, brush-drag UI processing improved 2.87–3.03× at the median and 3.81–4.56× at p95 against issue #158 baseline 221834bd. Typing, pan and zoom medians were roughly unchanged. These are two-run, as-used CPU-side UI measurements, not displayed FPS or a comparison with shipped 0.6.0. Both fleet sides used LTO-disabled benchmark builds; candidate source 8ee01b4e was tested before the final 0.6.1 package/version build. Full fleet results and limits.

A separate M1 Pro comparison with 24 documents open reduced median motion UI work from 515 to 59 ms for the announcement composition and 185 to 36 ms for Live Stream. Live Stream's first playing update fell from about 1.88 seconds to 22 ms. Its baseline was the earlier interaction-optimized build, and these results do not establish locked 30/60 fps. Motion evidence and method.

The caches use additional bounded memory. Some measured workflows became slower: HP native upscaling took 16.6% longer and Intel's 1024-pixel 2× CLI upscale took 34.1% longer; some pen, pan and zoom tails also increased. AI inference code is unchanged. The report retains every regression and the nine isolated changed pixels in the authoring export rather than claiming universal speedups or pixel identity.
